BURLESON — Police said a motorist was killed early Saturday morning when a wrong-way pickup truck crashed into his vehicle.
According to investigators, Robert Emerton was driving in the northbound lanes in the 3300 block of Wilshire Boulevard when his truck crossed over into oncoming traffic around 12:20 a.m.
Emerton's vehicle collided with a southbound Ford Escape sport utility vehicle. Its driver, 60-year-old William Smith of Rio Vista, was pronounced dead at the scene
Emerton, a 46-year-old Burleson resident, was taken by helicopter ambulance to a hospital for treatment. He was later released from the hospital.
Southbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard were closed for several hours during the investigation.
Police said they planned to close the southbound lanes of the road between 6 and 9 p.m. Saturday to reconstruct the accident.
This was the second fatal wrong-way crash in North Texas on Saturday morning. Four people died in a head-on collision on a Dallas freeway.
