FORT WORTH -- Tarrant County Public Health confirmed the first West Nile virus-related death of the season Thursday afternoon.

According to the health department, the victim was a south Fort Worth man in his 30s with underlying medical conditions. No other patient information was released.

The victim was one of four previously-announced human cases of West Nile virus in Tarrant County this year.

Meanwhile Thursday, Dallas County Health and Human Services confirmed the eighth human case of West Nile virus this season in that county.

That case was a resident in the 75201 ZIP code in the city of Dallas, and was diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease, the more severe form of the virus.

The first West Nile virus-related death of the year was reported in Dallas County earlier this month in South Oak Cliff.
