ARLINGTON — Her little life began on October 31. Seven-and-a-half months later, Olivia Paige Owen is still a perfect Halloween treat.
Now, she and her father are finally about to meet.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so excited," said Angela Owen, holding her daughter in her arms. "I don't think there's a word to describe how I feel right now."
Trent Owen is in the Army Reserves. He deployed to Afghanistan just a few weeks after a maternity photo shoot with his wife. The pictures show a dad eagerly awaiting delivery — a delivery he missed.
Owen arrived in Afghanistan in September.
Olivia arrived in an emergency Cesarean section the next month.
"When she was first born, she was the spitting image of him," Angela said.
Trent has been able to see that for himself across the miles. For months, he has watched Olivia laugh and heard her cry with the help of modern technology.
"We Skype and Facetime almost every day," Angela said from their Arlington apartment. "We're very fortunate to be able to do that."
But technology is no substitute for touch.
"He really doesn't like me to tell things about her; he wants to learn them all by himself," Angela said.
Trent just made it back to Texas; the reunion comes Wednesday at Fort Hood.
Angela will stop in Corsicana on the way to Killeen to pick up Trent's four-year-old daughter, too. She gets to see her father again; his newest gets to meet him.
"Lots of tears, lots of overwhelming emotions," said Angela, describing what Wednesday will be like. "I just can't wait ... I'm just so grateful and thankful my prayers are answered and he's coming home safe."
