FORT WORTH — The roof collapsed as fire swept a commercial building northeast of downtown Fort Worth early Sunday morning.
Fire department spokesman Richard Harrison said firefighters arrived around 2:40 a.m. to find heavy flames in the two-story building in the 2900 block of Race Street.
They attempted to attack the fire from the inside, but were forced to retreat as the threat to their safety became clear. The building was gutted.
A barber shop next door was damaged by water.
Harrison said the cause of the fire was under investigation. No injuries were reported.
