FORT WORTH – A woman was killed while walking southbound on a grass footpath along North Beach Street near Fossil Creek Boulevard on Monday afternoon.
Fort Worth police Sgt. Pedro Criado said witnesses described the driver as weaving before he crossed the intersection.
"They did observe the suspect vehicle lose control well before the intersection here, striking a couple curbs with his vehicle,” he said.
Cindy Rotter was out walking her dog at the time. Rotter said she didn't see the accident, but she heard it.
"I heard the thud and I turned and saw her after she was hit,” she said. “The poor woman was killed instantly."
Rotter said about five Good Samaritans first ran to assist the woman; then they ran after the truck as it rolled to a stop about 200 yards away.
One of those people tried performing CPR on the woman but she was pronounced dead when an ambulance arrived at the scene.
The woman’s name has not been released. The driver of the white truck was taken away for police questioning and volunteered a blood sample. The results of the toxicology test will become part of the investigation.
