FORT WORTH — For the first time since 2010, Fort Worth residents can stay cool in municipal pools this summer.

Workers are finishing up renovations on the Forest Park pool, and the all-new Marine Park pool is being readied on the city's north side.

Both are scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend.

Mayor Betsy Price, who learned to swim at Forest Park, says it's only possible because of a public-private partnership.

The Radler Foundation contributed a half-million dollars for the Forest Park makeover. Price said that freed up money to help build the new Marine Park pool.

Council member Sal Espino learned to swim in its predecessor. "That's an area that needs a pool, because there's no place for families and youth to swim," he said. "It's going to be the first all-new municipal pool in Fort Worth since the 1950s."

Fort Worth once had seven municipal pools. Mayor Price said if citizens want more pools, they can make them a priority in the next bond election in 2014.
