FORT WORTH — Rain swept across North Texas on Wednesday, just as thousands of NASCAR fans set up camp at Texas Motor Speedway to witness the AAA Texas 500 and associated races this weekend.
Enough rain fell to make the ground soggy, but not too muddy. RV owners were grateful for that.
"This thing weighs 50,000 pounds... it doesn't like mud," said George Rapp, standing next to his massive motor home.
Most race fans ignored the threatening skies. Many said they've endured nasty storms at previous races, and even had a few tents destroyed by high winds.
Races are scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Track officials said if it's going to rain, Wednesday is the best day for it.
