Kasey Gandy is the de-facto "leader" of a group of six Fort Worth firefighters who are climbing Alaska's Mount McKinley, better known as Denali in the 49th State.

In a telephone report on July 6, he announced that the team has arrived at the 17,000-foot "high camp"  after a "really long climb."

"It was beautiful and amazing," he said. "Everyone's feeling great."

He said the group would wait to see what the weather does in preparation for a possible attempt at the 20,000-foot summit on Monday.

The firefighters using the climb to raise money for the Sons of the Flag Foundation for Burn Survivors.
