A former Arlington Sam Houston High School football player has died in Abilene.
Taylor Huff, 21, was struck and killed by a car. The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
Huff was a senior wide receiver on the Hardin-Simmons University football team.
"We were saddened to learn of Taylor Huff's death," said Hardin-Simmons University President Dr. Lanny Hall in a written statement. "We are praying for God to comfort his family and friends during this difficult time."
Members of the team were summoned to meet Sunday afternoon to be briefed about Huff's death. Head coach Jesse Burleson said Huff had overcome real adversity to achieve his goals.
"He was extremely unselfish and caring," Burleson said in a statement. "We are so proud he is a part of our program. It is a sad day to be a Cowboy, we are hurting but we will get through this together."
Huff was an exercise science major at Hardin-Simmons.
