ARLINGTON — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 have reopened after a fiery crash killed an 18-year-old driver late Friday night.
The incident was reported around 11:15 p.m. at the Park Springs Boulevard overpass.
A sedan driven by Leo Avila crashed into a bridge support and caught fire. Avila was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the vehicle had been traveling at a very high speed — possibly more than 100 mph — on a wet road surface.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office ruled Avila's death was caused by a combination of the collision and the ensuing fire.
The eastbound lanes of I-20 were shut down for about three hours after the crash.
