FORT WORTH — Dallas police say a member of the department died Monday afternoon in what apparently was an accident involving his weapon.
Officer Christoper Pasley was at his home on Sierra Blanca Drive in far south Fort Worth when the incident was reported around 3:20 p.m.
"Officer Pasley died as a result of an apparent accidental discharge while cleaning his weapon at home today," Dallas police chief David Brown said in a written statement.
Brown said police staffers were being deployed to assist Pasley's family.
"I request the citizens of Dallas keep Officer Pasley and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Chief Brown said in his statement.
