FORT WORTH — A Carter-Riverside High School senior drowned Saturday night during a soccer team picnic at Gateway Park.

A coach for the team told investigators that as the picnic was winding down around 8 p.m., there was a commotion along the riverbank.

The coach was told that one of the team's varsity players had jumped into the water and disappeared.

Fort Worth Fire Department spokeswoman Carol Jones said divers recovered the young man's body from the Trinity River in about 25 feet of water, unconscious and unresponsive.

Paramedics rushed the student to Texas Health Harris Methodist Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as 17-year-old Malik Cisse of Fort Worth.
