RENDON –– Area fire departments had to tap out at least 11 brush fires in unincorporated Tarrant County Thursday night, likely the result of fireworks falling on dry vegetation.
The first was sparked at about 7:30 p.m. two miles north of the Tarrant-Johnson County line near Rendon. That fire sent billowing smoke high into the air as flames lapped up dry brush. Responders had that fire tapped out by 10 p.m.
No structures were damaged in the blaze.
Fire agencies from Rendon, Everman, Forest Hill, Mansfield, White Settlement, Kennedale, Benbrook, Lake Worth, Saginaw, Blue Mound and Eagle Mountain were all requested to help extinguish brush fires. Most of these were minor.
Fire crews were also working to tap out a small brush fire on the banks of the Trinity River started by a few embers from Fort Worth's annual 4th of July celebration.
