A Euless police officer called in the bomb squad around noon on Tuesday after finding a "suspicious device" that turned out to be fireworks inside a vehicle during a traffic stop.

The driver, who has not been identified, was arrested for outstanding traffic violations. The officer found the fireworks while searching the vehicle and grew concerned when he could not immediately identify what they were.

As a precautionary measure, the Northeast Tarrant County Bomb squad responded, and E. Midcities Blvd. was closed in both directions between Gateway and Baze roads. A few homes in the nearby area were also evacuated.

After using a robot to investigate the scene, it was determined the "suspicious device" was a large collection of bundled fireworks. The fireworks were destroyed and the driver does not face charges for having them in the vehicle.

Evacuated residents returned to their homes shortly after.
