FORT WORTH — With just one week before school starts for most North Texas youngsters, many are already getting ready for that first day back.

Thousands took part in the second annual Back to School Fiesta in Fort Worth on Saturday. Free school supplies were distributed, and the first 10,000 students got free backpacks.

There was also information available about school immunizations and library resources, with an emphasis on the Hispanic community.

"It's empowering our community so we can empower our country," said Olga Naranjo, founder of Hispano Exito. "We are the fastest-growing sector of the community, and we want everybody to be empowered and educated."

There were supplies for everyone from pre-kindergarten to seniors in high school.

The school bell rings for Fort Worth ISD students on Monday, August 27.
