Arlington Attempted Abduction
ARLINGTON -- Police are searching for a man who tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl in front of her apartment complex on Thursday.
Department spokeswoman Tiara Richard said the man approached the child as she played in the 2000 block of Willow Point Drive at 6 p.m.
The girl shared her story with News 8, but we have decided not to publish her name. She felt she was being followed because she could hear footsteps and would occasionally glance behind her.
She said the man grabbed her, wrapped his arm around her neck, and put his hand over her mouth.
"He just grabbed me, and as soon as I started moving, he did it harder and harder," the girl said.
Police say he made it "several feet" before the girl bit his hand and screamed for help.
"I bit him hard enough so he could let me go," the 12 year old said.
The man dropped her and ran. Richard said the suspect is a Hispanic man in his twenties, clean-shaven with curly hair "with some sort of gel product." At the time, he was wearing a Dickies-style shirt with a name patch and dark blue pants.
Police and volunteer residents passed out flyers and posted some on neighbor's doors showing a sketch of the man and the description.
"Today we went over stranger danger," said one neighbor, Dee, referring to a conversation she had with her kids.
Call Det. Ben Lopez at 817.459.5373 if you have any information regarding the incident. Call 911 if you need immediate help, Richard said.
