ARLINGTON -- A man was shot and killed outside of an apartment Thursday afternoon while visiting his ex-girlfriend and their two children, investigators said.

Arlington Police Department spokesman Christopher Cook said officers responded to the scene near Lamar Blvd. and found one man who was shot several times. Cook said the incident began as a "verbal dispute" between the victim and the suspect, Artis Leon Polk Jr., inside the apartment.

Cook said Polk is believed to be in a relationship with the victim's ex-girlfriend whom he was visiting. After the argument, the Polk allegedly pulled a gun and shot the victim outside the residence.

The victim has not been identified. An official cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Polk is charged with murder and is in jail in Arlington. His bond was set at $100,000.
