ARLINGTON — Former Arlington City Council member Gene Patrick died Saturday.

Patrick represented District 8 for four terms and had been re-elected to a fifth term, but stepped down last November due to health concerns.

"While I am very positive about my recovery, I have a long road ahead of me," Patrick acknowledged in his letter of resignation.

Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck said Patrick loved his city and his family.

"He stood up to it with courage, conviction... continued to work for the city, and he passed away last night," Cluck said. "We're going to miss him greatly."

Gene Patrick was 72 years old. He also served on other municipal committees, including the Planning and Zoning Commission, the UT Arlington Development Board and the Arlington Housing Finance Corporation.
