GULF SHORES, Alabama — Five students on spring break vacation in Alabama were rushed to the hospital after the deck they were standing on collapsed beneath them.
According to CNN, the students were staying at a beach house in Gulf Shores that was rented by a group from Fort worth. Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, 15 to 50 people were on the outside deck when it collapsed.
Witnesses told local TV station WPMI that "easily 40 people" were on the deck at one time when it came crashing down.
"We were on our way over there and we heard a huge crack, and we saw the deck fall down and a lot of people got caved under," said Alex Logue.
Police said six students suffered minor injuries. The renters included students from the University of Texas and Texas Christian University.
The Gulf Shores Fire Department was investigating the cause of the deck failure.
