FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A 28-year-old ex-con is heading back to prison with a 99-year sentence for attacking a TCU student near the Fort Worth campus and then leading police on a five-mile chase with speeds topping 100 mph.
Jurors in Fort Worth Wednesday also gave Jesse Castanuela 50 years for robbery for stealing the student's purse that led to the chase in September 2011.
Evidence showed two students were walking back to campus from a supermarket when a passenger jumped from Castanuela's car and punched one of them, grabbed the purse and the pair sped away. Witnesses called police and the chase ended when Castanuela crashed.
His partner earlier this year got 19 years in prison.
Evidence showed Castanuela had numerous other convictions, including failure to register as a sex offender.
