ARLINGTON -- Arlington police confirmed that a student was arrested after he or she brought a loaded gun to Sam Houston High School on Thursday.
School officials were notified of the presence of a weapon by another student, and Arlington police officers approached the 15-year-old student and took possession of the weapon without incident. Police said the student had the weapon in a binder in his backpack, along with some ammunition.
The student was arrested on a third-degree felony charge for bringing a weapon into a prohibited area and was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
Police say the student's motive for bringing the weapon is unknown at this time.
Additional security will be on campus on Friday and the school will conduct random checks with metal detectors to insure the safety of students and staff.
An AISD spokesperson said the district will take appropriate disciplinary action against the student.
