FORT WORTH -- Skeletal remains found Thursday in southwest Fort Worth were identified Monday through dental records as a missing Benbrook man, Fort Worth police confirm.
Chaney Hawthorne, 21, had not been seen or heard from for several days when a family member reported him missing to Benbrook police on Aug. 26.
Children discovered the skeletal remains in a partially-wooded area Thursday night, according to homicide Detective Kyle Sullivan.
The cause and manner of death are not yet known, but Sullivan said Benbrook police are investigating the case as a homicide.
