Prayer protest held in Midlothian over school plaque

MIDLOTHIAN -- A plaques mounted outside a Midlothian school was the reason for a prayer protest Thursday morning.

The sign in question reads, "Dedicated in the year of our Lord 1997 to the education of God's children and to their faithful teachers in the name of the Holy Christian Church. Soli Deo Gloria."

The Freedom From Religion Foundation says the plaque violates the constitution. The district planned to remove it Thursday to avoid a lawsuit, but another group is protesting to keep it up.

Their prayer protest began at 10 a.m. A former school board member tells News 8 that district lawyers approved the plaques before they were put up.
