Plane strikes birds, 14 flights delayed at DFW airport

DFW AIRPORT — A runway closed an 14 flights were delayed by a bird strike early Wednesday evening.

The pilot of American Eagle Flight 3077 reported to the airport tower that his plane, an Embraer 145, may have struck birds during takeoff. He reported that the plane was operating properly and continued onto Missouri.

Although the flight continued to its destination "without further incident," according to an airport representative, runway 35L was closed just after 5 p.m. at DFW. That runway closure resulted in the delays, none of which was longer than 23 minutes.

The runway reopened Wednesday evening.

Forty-eight passengers and three crew members were on board the plane.
