CONROE, TEXAS - Investigators say a vandal used a toilet seat and a parking stop to badly damage on Montgomery County Precinct 2 Constable patrol unit.
The vehicle’s windows were smashed and doors dented in while the vehicle was parked in the precinct’s open and unsecure parking lot.
Investigators say a passerby noticed the damage and called 911.
Conroe police responded and found something unexpected once they arrived on scene.
“He was seated in the driver’s seat,” said Chief Deputy Steven Roper. “And he was acting like he was sleeping or he was asleep at the time. We’re not sure at this point.”
Dionis Luque-Estrada was arrested. The 19-year-old faces a felony charge of criminal mischief.
Investigators say he admitted to getting drunk but couldn’t remember anything else.
The damaged vehicle was the newest addition to the Precinct 2 fleet. Repairs will cost around $4,000.
Roper said no matter the vandal’s motives, the impact is clear.
“An assault on a police officer’s equipment is the same as an assault on a police officer," Roper said. "This is a statement that this suspect made.”
If convicted, Luque-Estrada could receive up to 10 years behind bars.
Precinct 2 now plans to ask county commissioners for a gated and secure parking lot.
