DALLAS - A body was discovered in a building that was once an Uncle Julio's after firefighters were able to extinguish a three-alarm blaze Monday morning in the 7500 block of Greenville Ave.

Firefighters received news of the fire at the abandoned, boarded-up building at about 11:50 p.m.

Crews arrived to the scene to find heavy flames that forced firefighters to initially battle the blaze defensively, said Jason Evans, a spokesman with Dallas Fire-Rescue. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire for about six hours.

The body of an unidentified woman was found at about 8 a.m. Monday as crews began to demolish the building, which was deemed unsafe.

Bystanders at the scene alerted authorities that they may know the identity of the woman, who they said was likely in the building with another unidentified person, revealed a statement released by Dallas Fire-Rescue at about 11 a.m.

"We received reports that there may have been some homeless people living inside," Evans said prior to finding the body.

Crews sifted through the debris in search of a second body but nothing was found. Firefighters resumed clearing the site at about 3 p.m.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the cause of the female's death. The cause of the fire is also under investigation.

The structural damage is estimated to be about $525,820.
