State officials now estimate that 124,000 fish died Tuesday in Grapevine Lake.

The deaths are being blamed on a combination of extreme temperatures and depleted oxygen in the water due to the extended drought conditions in North Texas.

The dead fish were washing up on the shore of the lake, which is currently three feet below its normal level due to the absence of rainfall.
