Video showing 3-year-old smoking marijuana leads to Ark. man's arrest

Arrest from video of 3-year-old smoking weed

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- A shocking video out of North Little Rock has received more than 140,000 views on Facebook.

It shows a three-year-old sitting unrestrained in a back seat of a vehicle smoking what is believed to be marijuana. The child's uncle who posted the video on Facebook has been arrested.

The child took multiple drags and even referred to it as "weed."  In the video, Yancy said repeatedly that the child was “high," but continued to offer the drug to him.

North Little Rock Police originally found the disturbing video while investigating 17-year-old Lamel Yancy for an unrelated burglary charge.

The investigator happened to come across the video showing Yancy giving what he referred to as weed to his nephew.

“The child holds this like someone would be smoking so it makes you think this is not the first time this child has been exposed to this, said Sgt. Brian Dedrick with the North Little Rock Police Department.

The investigation started on September 1 when an off duty officer happened to come across the video on Facebook while looking for a burglary suspect.

North Little Rock Police arrested Yancy earlier this week. He's being charged as an adult for endangering the welfare of a minor. He's being held at the Pulaski County jail on a $2,500 bond.

“I was disturbed appalled by what I had seen,” said Dedrick.

The child was taken into custody by DHS who took him to Children’s Hospital for a hair follicle test to see if drugs were in his system, but those results can't be released.

Police said that the child's mother appears to be present in the video and can be heard saying, “Don’t let him have that.”

Police say the child, who is in custody of his grandmother, was returned to his grandmother a few days after DHS took him.

DHS is continuing to investigate. Yancy is scheduled for a court appearance on November 11.
