DALLAS — A disciplinary hearing will be held Thursday morning to determine the fate of Cardan Spencer, the Dallas police officer responsible for the controversial shooting of a mentally disabled man on October 14.
This is typically the procedure used before a police employee is terminated, although it is not known what type of discipline is under consideration in this case, or whether any other police personnel are involved.
Officer Spencer alleged that Bobby Bennett had come after him with a knife before the shooting. But a surveillance video of the incident first broadcast by News 8 showed that Bennett made no threatening moves before the officer opened fire.
The video evidence has led to criminal and internal investigations.
Bennett remains hospitalized for treatment of his injuries. Spencer is on indefinite leave.
