PLANO — There was an emotional farewell Tuesday for Sgt. Enrique Mondragon of Little Elm.

Mondragon died Christmas Eve in an attack in Afghanistan.

He was honored at funeral services at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano.

Mondragon was born in Dallas and graduated from The Colony High School. He was remembered as a man who was able to balance his role as strong warrior and a strong family man.

"Balance between fierceness on the battlefield and taking care of his soldiers and love of his family," said Maj. Gen. Dave Quantock. "There is nothing more important than those two things, and that's what he exemplified."

Mondragon was buried on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. He was posthumously awarded five military medals.

Sgt. Mondragon leaves behind a wife and daughter.
