LITTLE ELM -- Two people were killed by gunfire Thursday evening at a home in the 2600 block of Misty Harbor Drive in Little Elm.
Little Elm police Capt. Rodney Harrison confirmed two adults, a man and a woman, were found dead inside the residence. He said the relationship between the victims was still being determined.
The man was later identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office as 38-year-old Robert Shaffer of Frisco. The deaths occurred in the dining room of the residence, and according to a preliminary ruling, Shaffer shot himself in the head.
The medical examiner said 33-year-old Bethany Shaffer, a resident of the Misty Harbor address, was the other shooting victim.
Capt. Harrison said Thursday no other suspects were being actively sought in connection with this case, but would not confirm if this was being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Police stressed they believe there is no threat to the public or the community.
Shortly after police arrived, an agitated man ran up to the front of the home and collapsed in tears as police restrained him. His connection to the situation was unclear.
At 5:23 p.m., an ambulance left the scene with no passengers.
Police blocked off both ends of the street in the residential neighborhood lined with one- and two-story brick homes. Investigators were seen examining a house across the street from the crime scene for evidence that could be linked to the shootings.
Several neighbors said the family that lives in the home moved in less than six months ago. One neighbor told News 8 that a woman who lives at the address had visited her just a few hours earlier and gave no indication that there was any trouble.
Investigators said they hope to release more information on Friday.
