DENTON — Nearly 100 purebred dogs have been dumped in Denton County this week.
The Humane Society of North Texas says 41 Cavalier King spaniel dogs were left beside a rural road Wednesday at about 1 a.m. The night before, sheriff’s deputies found 51 Maltese dogs.
Investigators believe puppy mill operators are dumping their dogs in response to a law banning the mills.
The Humane Society is holding the dogs as strays at its location at 1840 E. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth.
“Those that are healthy and temperamentally sound will be available for adoption this Sunday, October 7,” said spokeswoman Crissy Lintner.
Any animals that special needs will be transferred to “reputable rescue organizations.”
The Humane Society is offering a $500 reward for anyone who has information that could lead investigators to who is responsible for abandoning the animals.
