Dallas police said an officer shot and wounded a suspect in a noontime confrontation on Monday.

According to a written statement, police were called to the 9400 block of Crimnson Court to deal with a man in crisis who was having "mental health issues."

A caller said the man had a knife and wanted police to shoot him.

When officers arrived the man ignored orders to drop the weapon and told police he was not going to cooperate.

"The incident escalated, which led an officer to fire his weapon upon the individual," the police statement said.

The suspect was taken to Baylor University Medical Center for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition. His name was not provided.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were being investigated.
