DALLAS — Dallas Fire-Rescue issued three alarms Tuesday night to battle a smoky, stubborn blaze atop a downtown office tower.

The fire was reported on the roof of the 25-story south tower of the Plaza of the Americas building at 600 North Pearl Street around 7:15 p.m. It was apparently touched off by construction workers using torches.

DART temporarily halted light rail service on all lines due to the potential danger of falling debris. The transit agency was operating buses to shuttle passengers between Union, Victory, Deep Ellum and Mockingbird stations.

There were no evacuations from the tower, and the fire was declared out by 8 p.m.

The Plaza of the Americas complex opened in 1980 and incorporates both office space and a Marriott hotel with an indoor atrium and skating rink.
