DALLAS -- For the seventh year, crews are working to turn Victory Plaza into a concert venue for Big D NYE.
The New Year's Eve celebration is expected to, once again, draw tens of thousands of people to the steps of the American Airlines Center.
"Very few cities in the United States have a venue like WFAA does at Victory Park," said Dave Muscari of WFAA-TV. "There really hasn't been a destination event in Dallas in many, many years, until Big D NYE came along. Victory Park is tailor-made for that type of thing."
This year, more people than ever before will have the option to take in the festivities from their home. Now syndicated in 30 markets, more than one million viewers can tune in from Kansas to Louisiana.
So many people are expect to show up DART will be running trains every 20 minutes from midnight until 2 a.m.
"I think the weather is really going to play in our favor here, hopefully everybody will come down and come party with us and have a good time," said Production Manager Larry Wright. "Maybe we'll have the biggest one ever!"
Monday, crews spent the day rigging stages, and positioning cameras and running miles of cable. San Antonio band Fifty Dollar Dynasty will headline a full night of music after beating out 1,100 other groups in the Texas Motor Speedway Fast Track to Fame competition. Then, the biggest party in the southwest will end with fireworks lighting up the night sky.
