DALLAS — Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning in far North Dallas.

According to a police statement, the 44-year-old victim was pushing a shopping cart across the six-lane divided street in the 17800 block of Coit Road when he was hit by a pickup truck and dragged more than 100 feet.

A witness who was driving southbound on Coit observed the victim just before he was struck at 2:14 a.m. Then — in his rear-view mirror —  he saw the man hit by the pickup.

The witness said the driver of the truck stopped briefly, then fled.

The only information about the suspect's vehicle is that it was a yellow, orange or gold-colored pickup truck. It would likely have front-end damage.

The accident site is about a half-mile south of Bush Turnpike.

The victim's name was not released because his family had not been notified. He was almost two miles from his home address, according to the police report.

Contact Dallas police or call 911 if you have any information about who is responsible for this crime.
