DALLAS — One of the main connections between downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff be unavailable to motorists starting Monday morning.
Workers shut down the Houston Street viaduct so DART can build a new streetcar line.
Here's the big change: The Houston Street viaduct — a one-way conduit for traffic from downtown into Oak Cliff — will be off-limits at Young Street until late next year.
The Jefferson Boulevard viaduct runs parallel, bringing drivers into downtown. This weekend, workers reconfigured the lanes on that bridge so it can handle traffic in both directions.
The HOV lane entrance ramp to Interstate 35E on the bridge will be closed during construction.
The streetcar line — which will link the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff with the Dallas Convention Center downtown — is expected to be rolling by the end of 2014.
