DALLAS -- Firefighters got a two-alarm blaze at two-story condominium in northeast Dallas under control after about a hour-and-a-half Thursday afternoon.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the fire in the 8500 block of Park Lane at 4:17 p.m. according to DFR Spokesman Jason Evans, and it was pushed to two alarms in minutes once crews realized the fire had reached attic space. In total, 36 DFR firefighters responded.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames confined to one building, though two buildings sustained smoke, fire, or water damage. The fire was contained by 6:02 p.m.

Seven families were displaced and the American Red Cross is responding to their needs.

Fire investigators determined the blaze began accidentally due to "improperly discarded smoking materials," according to Evans. The fire began on the first floor and quickly spread.

There were no reported injuries.
