IRVING -- The Irving ISD Board of Trustees decided Monday night to accept the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden, effective immediately.

Bedden's contract was to run through 2016. The terms of the resignation were not made public Monday.

Following the decision, Irving School Board Vice President Larry Stipes read a statement that said it was in the best interests of both the board and Bedden to "pursue a different philosophical direction for the district."

"On behalf of the entire district, the Board of Trustees expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Bedden for his efforts while serving as superintendent of this great school district and its wonderful students, parents and administrators, and for the many achievements and accomplishments of the entire district team during Dr. Bedden’s tenure as superintendent," Stipes said.

The Irving School Board has called a meeting at 7 a.m. Friday to consider naming an interim superintendent and to consider hiring a search firm for the vacant position.
