Grand Prairie appealed to residents to "severely curtail" water use Monday evening after a major water main ruptured on the north side of Joe Pool Lake.

The city said all outside watering and "nonessential uses of water" should be discontinued until repairs can be made -- and that could take at lest 24 hours.

The pipeline break near the intersection of Carrier Parkway and Camp Wisdom Road affects the supply for the entire city, according to a statement from the public works director.
