GARLAND -- Hal Ticknor, an 82-year-old Garland man with dementia who had been missing since early October, was found dead in a rural area outside of Seymour, Texas Friday afternoon, police believe.

Ticknor's 2007 Chevy Equinox was discovered along with a body by hunters Friday afternoon, according to Garland police spokesman Joe Harn. The body will go to the Tarrant County medical examiner for positive identification.

Members of First United Methodist Church in Garland volunteered to search day and night for Ticknor in the weeks since he went missing. Pastor Clay Womack said while the outcome was sad, there has been lots of time for prayer and reflection.

"It does not come as a shock," Womack said. "We are sad for the loss, but we are concerned for the care and support for Ann and family. The Ticknor family is a family of great faith, that gives us great confidence he is in a better place that we call heaven."

Ticknor, an Air Force veteran, was last seen on Oct. 11. He filled his car with gas and asked two people for directions to Garland the day he disappeared.

Seymour, Texas is located 166 miles northwest of Dallas.
