DALLAS –– Former Dallas Cowboy Deion Sanders has been issued a misdemeanor assault ticket more than three weeks after a scuffle with an administrator at the charter school he helped found.

The Hall of Famer was charged with Class C assault, which is equal to a traffic citation and a fine.

The citation stems from an incident on Oct. 9 in which a top administrator at Prime Prep Academy told police that Sanders “grabbed” him “by the collar” and “pushed him into the wall hurting the right side of his back,” according to a police report detailing the incident.

The report says that Jefferson told investigators “he hit his left hip on the desk after the suspect released his collar.” Others in the room then “stopped the altercation” and Jefferson went to the hospital afterward for soreness.

Sanders admitted the confrontation but denied the other allegations.

“Mr. Jefferson was not beat down,” he said in a phone interview. “He was not beat up, he was not hit. He was none of that. Mr. Jefferson and I got into a confrontation about the welfare of these kids. And we’ll get into another one. Until you start taking care of these kids, I’m going to be on a rampage. Until we start serving these kids in Dallas like the kids are served in Fort Worth, and better, I’m going to be on the same rampage, because the teachers are frustrated. We’re frustrated.”

Sanders later tweeted that Jefferson “is a fake administrator whom does absolutely nothing to help the school, kids or teachers reach our goals.”

Sanders was ousted from Prime Prep the day after the incident by co-founder D.L. Wallace. Hours later, he was reinstated and coached his team during the homecoming football game.

Sanders has not commented on the citation to News 8, but told TMZ that he plans on fighting it.
