Dallas police need help finding a suspect who ran over a man in a 7-Eleven parking lot on Dec. 16.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to a major accident at the 3200 block of West Polk at around 10 p.m. that Sunday. When they arrived, they found Ronnie James. Jr. staggering in the parking lot.
The man told the officers that he and his friends went to the convenience store to buy cigarettes. He said he'd spent the day drinking and watching the Cowboys game. When he got to the 7-Eleven, James walked around the building and began urinating.
The police report says James spotted another man fighting with two others near a Chevrolet Blazer across the parking lot. He saw one man strike the vehicle, but then James went into the store to buy cigarettes. Surveillance footage released later shows the three men pull up in the Blazer, get out and fight each other.
After buying cigarettes, James told investigators he walked out and saw the fight was still going. But now one of the men directed a comment toward James, asking him, "What?"
A witness told James to "Let it go and let's go." While walking across the parking lot back toward 7-Eleven, James noticed the three were back in the car and it was coming his way.
"He heard the vehicle engine coming towards him then the next thing he knew he was laying on the pavement," the report says.
The suspects fled northbound in the silver Blazer with a passenger. James recovered from his injuries at Methodist Central.
Police say the suspect driving the vehicle is a Hispanic man, about 5'5'' who weighed 250 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt.
Anyone with information about who this man is should call Det. Valdez at 214.671.3623.
