DALLAS — A murder suspect was killed late Friday night in a standoff with Dallas police
Investigators said Stoney Eugene Rawlinson was wanted for killing his girlfriend, Samantha Rasmus, and stuffing her body in a plastic container.
The suspect called police saying he wanted to turn himself in at the parking lot of a Tom Thumb supermarket at Skillman Street and Abrams Road around 11:45 p.m. But as officers approached his vehicle, police spotted a gun and ordered Rawlinson to put it down.
Police opened fire when he refused, department spokesman Senior Cpl. Demarquis Black said.
A SWAT team was called to the scene to approach the vehicle because the suspect's condition was not clear. He was found dead inside the car.
Black said a weapon was recovered inside Rawlinson's car.
Police said Rawlinson, 39, was the suspect in the machete attack of Rasmus, whose body was was found in a cargo container in a remote section of southeast Dallas on Thursday afternoon.
Neighbor Linda Foster told News 8 she had heard the couple arguing on Monday night, and that was the last time she saw Rasmus alive.
