Should a portion of Highway 75 in Dallas be renamed to honor President George W. Bush?
Dallas-area residents know it as Central Expressway or Highway 75.
But State Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas) thinks there's a better name: George W. Bush Expressway.
The lawmaker has introduced a bill in the Texas Legislature (H.B. No. 3520) to rename a seven-mile stretch of the road — from Interstate 30 north to Park Lane in Dallas — to honor our 43rd president. The highway passes the site of the new George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
But some people are already concerned that the new name could be confusing for drivers.
Ten miles north of the end of the proposed Bush Expressway, Highway 75 intersects with the President George Bush Turnpike; closer to downtown, it would also run next to the newly-named Bush Avenue.
If the bill is approved, the name change would become official on September 1.
