RICHARDSON — A tidier turnpike was the goal of a group of people from the World Mission Society Church of God.

About 50 volunteers picked up trash Sunday along North Central Expressway in Richardson near the President George Bush Turnpike. They found all kinds of debris, including old tires and even furniture.

The effort is a part of a world-wide clean-up campaign the church sponsors every year.

"We are children of God. God asked us to always take care of this Earth and to make sure that our environment is clean and beautiful for generations to come," said church spokesman John Power.

Volunteers taking part in Sunday's clean-up were from churches in Richardson and Fort Worth.
