DALLAS — It's been almost a month since we watched Big Tex burn to his frame on the final weekend of the State Fair.
Now, we're getting details on future of the iconic statue.
News 8 has learned that Big Tex's face will be remade to look exactly the same. The Fair had considered slightly changing his appearance, but decided to leave his looks largely intact.
His famous pose will also remain unaltered, but he will have a stronger steel frame, fire-retardant clothing, and even a sprinkler system that sprays foam.
Work to restore Big Tex should begin next month, and could cost up to $600,000. The non-profit State Fair of Texas hopes sponsors and citizens will foot the bill.
