DALLAS (AP) — A special prosecutor will investigate a possible contempt of court violation by the Dallas County district attorney.

Cooke County prosecutor Ron Poole was appointed Thursday to handle the contempt proceedings involving Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins. State District Judge Bob Brotherton of Wichita Falls made the appointment Wednesday.

A Dallas judge held Watkins in contempt earlier this month for not answering questions about whether his office prosecuted an oil fortune heir for mortgage fraud as a favor to a friendly political donor.

Watkins' top assistant, Heath Harris, says he's concerned that Poole works for Cooke County District Attorney Janice Warder. Warteris a former Dallas prosecutor who was found to have improperly withheld information in the trial of a 1986 murder.

Warder and Poole weren't available for comment.
