A Dallas activist is asking for the public's help to find his grandson's killer.
Tyrek Jenkins, 19, was walking home from the store Wednesday night when he was shot and killed in Pleasant Grove, according to Dallas police. He is the grandson of Reverend Ronald Wright.
Jenkins was sent to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. Wright said he was a young father who had a new job at Amazon.
Reverend Ronald Wright has been an activist for years, calling for an end to violence. Wright read a note that Tyrek sent out just days before he died, pledging his life to God. That makes all this bittersweet.
"Him and his brother were just good quiet kids, good boys. Her mother raised them and did a great job in raising them," said Wright.
WFAA met with Tyrek's mother, Yeneka Younger-Robinson. She was at home with dozens of family and friends, grieving the loss of Tyrek.
The 19-year-old was shot walking home from the convenience store just around the corner. The family told WFAA that Tyrek went to get snacks for his fiancee and their child.
"You didn't take his money. You didn't take his phone. You took his life," Yeneka said.
Wright met with WFAA briefly on Thursday night. For Wright, there is also frustration at the community.
"I can't get mad at what police officers do to you all the time, and you do it to yourselves and ya'll don't say nothin,'" said Wright.
