Man inside Dallas dumpster injured when trash emptied into truck

DALLAS — Authorities in Dallas say a homeless man was injured when the dumpster he was inside was emptied into a trash truck Monday.

Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to the scene Monday morning in the 10100 block of Lake June Road, according to Jason Evans, a spokesman for the department.

"Reportedly, the driver of the truck saw the man through a camera mounted on the truck to monitor for such occurrences, but it's unknown how long he was in the truck before being discovered," Evans said. "Though the truck's compactor activated, he was still alive when firefighters arrived at the location."

Crews used a Stokes basket, a stretcher, to life the victim from the waist-deep trash. Evans said the man was conscious and able to communicate with firefighters and medics.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital. Evans said the extent of his injuries were unknown Monday afternoon.
